Home Coming 2009

Comments

Ex-pats from across the globe will flock to Scotland this year for a homecoming that has never been seen before in our nation's history.

Thousands of exiled Scots will be returning home. Each with their own story to tell.

The Scotsman is keen to hear these stories. We want you to tell us your memories of Scotland, what made you or your family decide to leave and what your impressions of the country are on your return.

You can let us and other ex-pats know of your experiences by submitting a comment below or you can click here to email us and we will consider your story for publication in the print edition of The Scotsman.

Annual Tour of Britain. Stage 3 - Scotland 14th September 2009 How come no mention of this? From Peebles to Gretna Green. This is the first time The Tour of Britain visited the Scottish Borders region of Scotland. http://www.tourofbritain.co.uk/_ns_race/stage3_route.asp Will it be better advertised next year? Why did it not go through Burns Country (Ayrshire and Dumfriesshire)? Cheers, Aulyin

I am an Aussie living in Scotland and loving it. Over a number of years we came for holidays and short work stints. However in 2003 a work opportunity bought us to the UK and to Scotland, home of my ancestors. My great grannie and husband emigrated to Australia in 1908 with their small family - never to return to these shores. Some of her brothers and sisters emigrated to Canada, and three stayed behind in Scotland. Our families have never had a reunion since that time. We are looking forward to Homecoming Scotland events. On August 8 & 9th 2009 we have decided to hold the first 'McBirnie / McBurnie Family Gathering' in Ayrshire where our common ancestor James McBurnie and his wife Ann Thomson settled and raised their family. I am researching our family tree and organising this event. This is a call to McBirnie and McBurnie families who can trace their ancestry back to the Crosshill, Maybole and Kirkmichael areas.
